PATAC DESIGN DOME
Automotive designers need to control the reflected environment in order to review their designs. To create the bright sky, dark ground and ideal “horizon line” we curved the floor and optimized the dome shape to perfectly distribute light while minimizing cost. The optimal light hatch locations depended on the turn table location, dome size, and dome curvature. Balancing all of this on a tight budget and schedule was only possible using parametric modeling techniques that allowed rapid iteration and exploration of complex codependent variables. The final design is much simpler than you would expect given the constraints we worked within.
