DR. MISTRICK SABBATICAL

Dr. Mistrick taught me daylighting at Penn State and became interested in our innovative daylighting workflows. He decided to spend his sabbatical working with me to improve his understanding of grasshopper, parametric modeling and computational design. We spent the spring semester of 2019 investigating how Design Space Exploration can radically alter how daylighting analysis is conducted within the AEC industry.  

Design Space Exploration leverages parametric modeling, iterative computation, and machine learning to inform interdisciplinary design collaboration. Rather than validate several predetermined design options, this method simulates the entire space of design possibilities so that collaborative teams can balance competing criteria in real-time within data-rich environments. It is engineering at the speed of design.
